William Paul Arnold ("Billy")

Deceased Date: 1979-11-18
Tammy Lindsay Levanger - December 30th, 2009
I love you still Billy Arnold and you are often discussed in our household.  My children grew up with your picture on the wall.l   The "raise not the roof" plaque that you gave John and I has been proudly displayed over a doorway in every house I have ever called home.  You were the first person who knew that John and I were getting married and I can see you leaving my place for that last time just as clearly as if it were yesterday.    I will never forget leaving the funeral home after your serviceand seeing the big 'ole monkey hanging out of someone's car window....we were all certain that you somehow had a hand in that so that we would stop crying in order to laugh....and we did, oh how we laughed! Blue Skies Forever says it all.  Love ya and miss ya.

Maurice Chapman ("Coach")

Gary McDonald - May 3rd, 2016
RIP coach. Never Forgotten.
Harold "Joe" Tanguay - June 15th, 2012
Coach Chapman,  You were an awesome coach to this young Freshman!  I was lucky enough to have played for you in the Fall of 1974 at DBHS.  I remember starting out with the JV squad and you moved me up at the begining of the season.  I was very intimidated by the maturity of the players on the Varsity squad and yet the guys were very respectful of me as I worked my butt off bangin heads and takin my licks.  I was so proud to be playing on the varisty squad.  I remember riding on the bus to Wilmington-Hoggard and you had me sit up front with you.  Riding up front with the coach!  I thought I was so cool.  I believe on the ride down to the game that afternoon a pickup truck passed us and standing up in the back of the truck was a 70's phenomena, a streaker!  We were all laughing so hard!  During the game you would call me off the bench and tell me to go in and play Offensive Tackle or Defensive
End.  I was so nervous! I lettered that year and I'm still so proud of having attained that letter!  My father was in the military then and he recieved orders to go to Washington state at the end of the school year. We moved and I played ball at another team, the Cheney High School "Blackhawks".  I love that team and had a wonderful time in High School and yet I always wonder what would have happened if I had stayed and kept playing for the mighty Eagles!  Thank you Coach Chapman!  You gave me so much inspiration to play football!  Joe Tanguay

Coach was a real man's man and a great guy. Even if he would punch you in the groin in front of the entire luch room.lol
Dale White Bentley - May 17th, 2010
To the family of Leverne, you were a good friend and a great naber, I enjoy going up with you.
Eric Quigley - February 12th, 2010
Coach by the time I got to your class in 1985 you had long since quit coaching but you still loved the game. I remember how we used to talk about when you played football. We used to joke that obviously it was when there were no face guards and you would laugh. We talked more about football than the History we were supposed to be learning.
You coached my brothers Mike (class of '74) and Keith (class of '76). I admit I did shed a tear when I heard of your passing. You were a good guy and you cared about your students. Your wisdom about life was appreciated so much that at times I felt  I was talking with my father. Hopefully one day we will talk again.

My Mother was a wonderful person and I am truely blessed to have had her in my life for those 18 years. I miss her everyday though I know she is with me in spirit. She made me the strong person I am today and gave me a spirit that I want my own child to carry on. Mom I can't say enough how much I love you and Miss you!   You were right that Ben and I would get married I am so happy that you knew him before you went on to Heaven, and your grandson looks just like his Daddy! Ferris Hickman Delionbach - November 29th, 2012
Mr. A taught me 9th grade biology in Garland NC. If I remember correctly, it was his first year teaching or at least one of the first. He was probably one of the hardest teachers, but he made learning in his classroom fun. When in college taking biology, I then realized what a good teacher he was.

Tom Bougan - May 24th, 2011
I remember once in Chemistry II, they announced that the bathrooms were going to be closed, so we sent a beaker of warm yellow colored fluid to the office, with a note saying we couldn't wait- he was a real prankster :)
Bobby Bullard - May 1st, 2011
Mr A was the best chemistry teacher I ever had, even through college. I always loved to pick at him about the state-carolina rivalry. He is one of the reasons I am an educator today.
