Coach Chapman, You were an awesome coach to this young Freshman! I was lucky enough to have played for you in the Fall of 1974 at DBHS. I remember starting out with the JV squad and you moved me up at the begining of the season. I was very intimidated by the maturity of the players on the Varsity squad and yet the guys were very respectful of me as I worked my butt off bangin heads and takin my licks. I was so proud to be playing on the varisty squad. I remember riding on the bus to Wilmington-Hoggard and you had me sit up front with you. Riding up front with the coach! I thought I was so cool. I believe on the ride down to the game that afternoon a pickup truck passed us and standing up in the back of the truck was a 70's phenomena, a streaker! We were all laughing so hard! During the game you would call me off the bench and tell me to go in and play Offensive Tackle or Defensive
End. I was so nervous! I lettered that year and I'm still so proud of having attained that letter! My father was in the military then and he recieved orders to go to Washington state at the end of the school year. We moved and I played ball at another team, the Cheney High School "Blackhawks". I love that team and had a wonderful time in High School and yet I always wonder what would have happened if I had stayed and kept playing for the mighty Eagles! Thank you Coach Chapman! You gave me so much inspiration to play football! Joe Tanguay

Coach by the time I got to your class in 1985 you had long since quit coaching but you still loved the game. I remember how we used to talk about when you played football. We used to joke that obviously it was when there were no face guards and you would laugh. We talked more about football than the History we were supposed to be learning.
You coached my brothers Mike (class of '74) and Keith (class of '76). I admit I did shed a tear when I heard of your passing. You were a good guy and you cared about your students. Your wisdom about life was appreciated so much that at times I felt I was talking with my father. Hopefully one day we will talk again.
